I am a print salesperson
I am a print buyer
I am a government purchaser
I am a paper salesperson
I am a paper buyer
I am a paper customer service representative
I am a government, university, or school district purchaser
Problem:
Print and paper purchases in most federal, state, and municipal organizations, colleges and universities, and school districts must be sent out to bid. It's your responsibility to develop exact specificationsfor each purchase including bid opening and closing dates, size, number of pages, inks, proofs, folds, delivery date, shipping, AND the paper stock! The paper constitutes 30-35% of the cost of the job on average and has the greatest single influence in making the piece reflect the original designer's intent. How can you be exact with your paper bid information, match your designer's specifications, and make sure you are getting what you are paying for?
Solution:
Simple. You can research the Competitive Grade Finder - Worldwide site.
Let's take an example: A designer or department sends a one-page, 4-color brochure for you to put out to bid. They have requested that the brochure be printed on 80#, coated cover with a gloss finish and a brightness rating of 91 or greater. It's impossible for anyone to know all of the papers that meet these specifications, so you would use Grade Finders' Paper Buyers Online site to find your answers.
By going to the Search Grade Section (Classification), entering "coated offset," and clicking go, you will see all of the classifications of paper that have the words "coated offset" in them. By clicking on "No. 1 Coated Offset Cover," you will see that Grade Finders Target Manufacturers Brightness Specification for a No. 1 Coated Offset is 91-93.9. You have found the correct classification along with 7 mill brands and 24 private label brands that meet your designer's specifications. Can you imagine the tremendous amount of time saved on each bid request?
After each printer submits their bid, you can use the Search Grade Section (Grade Name) to make sure the grade they have quoted meets your specifications.
