Arjowiggins launches COCOON, a new extra-white FSC 100% recycled range

December 9, 2009 -- Arjowiggins SAS -- Arjowiggins, far from being just a traditional paper manufacturer, continues to develop its strategy to become the world’s leading manufacturer of environmentally-friendly papers. For many years, Arjowiggins has manufactured “Eural” – a 100% recycled paper - at its Le Bourray mill in France producing 110,000 tonnes a year. To further support the innovation in environmental paper during 2007, Arjowiggins acquired Dalum Papir, a Danish producer of premium recycled paper. Dalum Papir manufactures “Cyclus” the leading European brand of paper produced using 100% recycled fibres and a manufacturing process that uses only one thenth of the energy necessary to produce virgin fibres making it virtually carbon neutral. Arjowiggins proudly now supplies 40% of the European market. Finally, in 2008, Arjowiggins completed the acquisition of Greenfield sas, the leading European manufacturer of process chlorine free FSC-certified de-inked pulp (140,000 tonnes a year) The integration of the Dalum and Greenfield businesses marked a significant step in the company’s strategic shift towards “green” coated and uncoated papers in Europe. SILVER IMAGE LASER - New Digital Paper Generation For Xerographic Process

November 21, 2009 -- M-real Corporation -- In November, M-real Zanders will offer a new generation of digital papers for the xerographic process. silver image laser is a wood free special coated paper range optimised for full colour digital copying and printing and is available in matt, gloss (two-side coated) and supergloss (cast coated). Silver image laser matt is a special coated, wood free fine paper with a silky matt appearance, available in seven weights (115-350 gsm). It can be used for advertising materials, direct mails, brochures, calendars and business cards. Silver image laser gloss is a two-side coated, wood free fine paper with a very even glossy finish available from 115 gsm to 350 gsm for use in advertising material, image brochures, signs, posters, leaflets and coupons. Silver image laser gloss and matt convince through an even surface, high stiffness and light resistance, accurate cutting quality and ideal finishing properties. Their coating formulation is further optimised for the xerographic process. Silver image laser supergloss is a cast-coated fine paper in the silver image laser range, with the highest gloss on the market. New M.D. for Robert Horne

November 18, 2009 -- Robert Horne Paper Company -- Paul French has been appointed managing director of Robert Horne Group. He has worked in the visual communication market for over 15 years having started his career at Xerox. He also gained general management experience in a variety of senior management roles. In 2001 he was appointed became managing director of Spandex UK, the specialist sign and display systems and consumables supplier which is part of the International Gerber Technologies. For the past three years he has been divisional director of Robert Horne’s Sign & Display division. Mr French said: ‘This is a really exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to leading this business as we navigate our way through the current trading conditions into what I believe is a period of growth and stability for this business. Burgo Chiampo (Italy) Mill gets FSC Certification

September 29, 2009 -- Burgo Group Spa -- The Chiampo mill is now part of the Burgo Group's plants to have been assessed FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) chain-of-custody certification for purchase of paper pulp from controlled and FSC certified fibres, for designing, production, finishing and sale of uncoated, coated and special papers. The FSC chain-of-custody has been also extended to the extrusion coating process of the Treviso mill (already FSC certified), thus including the laminated papers in the range of certified products. The Chiampo plant is specialised in the production of one-sided coated papers for labels and posters, two-side coated papers for shopping bags, machine-glazed papers for food packaging. This is another important goal attained by the Groups' policy to promote a responsible approach to resources, sustainable forestry management and the implementation of environmental management systems.

Burgo wins chunk of IKEA Catalogue Paper Supply Business

July 10, 2009 -- Burgo Group Spa -- Burgo Group is among the paper suppliers of IKEA, the Swedish giant company whose catalogue has now reached the remarkable print run of 200 million copies distributed per year, with a forecast of further growth. The IKEA catalogue, born in 1951, serves as a permanent invitation to the IKEA stores and as a source of product information; the present edition is produced in 56 editions and 27 languages for 38 different countries. IKEA's CEO, Anders Dahlvig, recently received the Oslo Business for Peace Award 2009, given by The Business for Peace Foundation in Oslo; this is a clear recognition of IKEA commitment to do business in an ethical and responsible way. Within this huge organization, where nearly one billion of printed items including catalogues, selection brochures, planning guides and flyers are distributed every year and the highest care is put on sustainability requirements, Burgo plays its role: the local editions of the annual catalogue (2010) for Italy, Singapore and Malaysia as well as some special brochures have been printed on mechanical and woodfree coated papers produced by our Group. The Burgo papers selected by IKEA for the catalogue text are light weight coated mechanical grades for rotogravure (Uno Roto) and weboffset printing (Uno Web) together with woodfree coated grades (R4) for the catalogue covers and light weight gravure high brightness (Uno Roto White) for the special brochures.

New Coating Unit at Mimizan

July 6, 2009 -- Papeteries de Gascogne -- Gascogne Paper has installed a new coating unit at its facility in Mimizan, western France, which will mainly be used to treat the facility's natural m.g.kraft paper, it can also be used on a range of materials for various applications, like grease-proofing and release paper production.

Hamburger-Hungaria newest machine running

July 1, 2009 -- Hamburger Hungaria Kft -- PM 7, at 7.8m width and a capacity of 400 kTpa is running a treat! The newest machine in the Hamburger empire is currently producing Testliner-4 and schrenz, but when fully wound-up will be producing 100% recycled testliner of higher grade as well as corrugating mediums in weights between 70g/m² and 150g/m². Although some of the output will be utilised by companies within the Hamburger group, most of the output will be for commercial sale.

Fresh Hopes For Stromsdal Restart

July 1, 2009 -- Stromsdal Oyj -- Since December 2008, when Stromsdal filed for bankruptcy and made 170 people redundant, the mill's two paper machines have stood idle, when previously they could produce up to 70K t.p.a. of highest quality boards for graphic and packaging purposes. A new bidder has appeared and has signed a 'letter of intent' with the liquidators, which gives them 3 months to put together a salvation plan and financing package. So there is great hope that at least one of the many and varied European mills that had faced extenction can be brought back to active, and hopefully profitable life!

Favini achieves FSC certifications for key top brands

April 11, 2009 -- Gruppo Favini S.p.A. -- Favini announces that key top brands are now FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. The products certified are: Majestic, Burano, Bindakote, SHIRO Alga Carta, SHIRO Echo, BIANCOFLASH Premium, BIANCOFLASH Ivory, Bindakote, Astralux, Classy Covers, Dolce Vita, and Le Cirque. Favini has been accredited for FSC since February 2005 and strongly supports the FSC approach to forestry protection. FSC certifies the chain of production to assure consumers that wood pulps come from forests that are managed to meet strict social, economic and ecological standards. FSC is an independent not for profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. Andrea Nappa, CEO of Favini, said: "The new FSC certifications, that now cover these key brands, support Favini's long standing commitment to the protection of the environment in which we believe we are one of the most advanced companies in Europe.. We will continue to innovate in environmentally friendly papers and to make investments that reduce our carbon footprint and other important impacts." Both Favini mills are FSC certified and comply with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 regulations. The Rossano Veneto mill is also OHSAS 18001 certified and was the first paper mill in Italy to receive ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Favini does not use any uncontrolled wood from virgin forests in line with FSC guidelines.
